Recipe for Seared Pork Chops with Bread Stuffing
Ingredients:
- For the Pork Chops:
- 4 bone-in pork chops, about 1-inch thick
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh thyme for garnish
- For the Bread Stuffing:
- 1 loaf of bread, cut into cubes (about 6 cups)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
- Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) and/or dried cranberries
Instructions:
- Prepare the Bread Stuffing:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes until dry and golden. Transfer to a large mixing bowl.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions, celery, and garlic, and sauté until soft, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the thyme, sage, salt, and pepper, then pour this mixture over the bread cubes. Add the nuts and cranberries if using.
- Gradually pour chicken broth over the mixture, tossing gently until evenly moistened.
- Transfer the stuffing to a greased baking dish and cover with foil.
- Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes until the top is crispy.
- Cook the Pork Chops:
- Season the pork chops generously with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the pork chops and sear until golden brown on both sides, about 5-7 minutes per side depending on thickness, until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C).
- Remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes.
- Serve:
- Serve the pork chops hot, topped with fresh thyme.
- Accompany with a generous portion of the bread stuffing.
