Cheesy Bread Pie Recipe
Ingredients
- For the Dough:
- 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp instant yeast
- 3/4 cup (180ml) warm milk
- 1/4 cup (60ml) warm water
- 3 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
- For the Cheese Filling:
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup ricotta cheese or cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- For the Topping:
- 1 egg yolk (beaten, for brushing)
- 1 tbsp melted butter (optional, for extra shine)
- Fresh parsley or cilantro (chopped, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add the warm milk, warm water, and olive oil. Mix and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic (about 8-10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a dough hook).
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
- Prepare the Cheese Filling:
- In a medium bowl, mix mozzarella, ricotta (or cottage cheese), feta, egg, salt, and pepper until combined.
- Shape the Dough:
- Punch down the dough and roll it out into a large circle, about 12 inches in diameter.
- Place the dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Add the Cheese Filling:
- Spread the cheese mixture over the center of the dough, leaving about 2 inches of border around the edges.
- Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, partially covering it, to form a crust. Pinch the edges to seal.
- Bake:
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Brush the crust with the beaten egg yolk for a golden finish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
- Finish and Serve:
- Brush the baked pie with melted butter for extra flavor.
- Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or cilantro.
- Slice and serve warm.
