Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup salsa
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (4 oz) diced green chiles
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a mix of cheddar and Monterey Jack)
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Jalapeño slices (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Beef:
    • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
    • Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef and cook until the onions are translucent.
  2. Add Flavors and Beans:
    • Stir in the salsa, black beans, green chiles, cumin, and chili powder. Season with salt and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
  3. Combine with Cheeses:
    • Reduce the heat and mix in the cream cheese until well incorporated.
    • Add about half of the shredded cheese and stir until the cheese is melted and the mixture is creamy.
  4. Bake (Optional):
    • Transfer the mixture to a baking dish if you want to bake it.
    • Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese over the top.
    • Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese on top is bubbly and slightly golden.
  5. Garnish and Serve:
    • Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro and jalapeño slices.
    • Serve warm with tortilla chips for dipping.
