Steak with Creamy Mushroom Sauce

Ingredients:

  • Steak:
    • 2 steaks (such as ribeye, sirloin, or filet mignon), about 1 inch thick
    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Mushroom Sauce:
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • 1/2 pound mushrooms, sliced (such as cremini or button)
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 shallot, minced
    • 1/2 cup beef broth
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream
    • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    • Fresh herbs (such as thyme or parsley), chopped
    • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Steak:
    • Season the steaks generously with salt and pepper.
    • Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, add the steaks and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until they reach your desired doneness.
    • Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest.
  2. Make the Mushroom Sauce:
    • In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the butter.
    • Once melted, add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until they are browned and tender, about 5-7 minutes.
    • Add the garlic and shallot, and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
    • Pour in the beef broth to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
    • Stir in the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3-4 minutes.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste, and stir in the fresh herbs.
  3. Serve:
    • Place the steaks on plates and spoon the mushroom sauce over the top.
    • Garnish with additional herbs if desired.
