Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Mix Cream Cheese and Butter:
    • In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add Powdered Sugar:
    • Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition until the frosting is smooth. You can adjust the amount of powdered sugar based on how thick or sweet you want the frosting to be.
  3. Add Flavorings:
    • Beat in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt (if using) until everything is well combined.
  4. Adjust Consistency:
    • If the frosting is too thick, you can thin it by adding a teaspoon of milk or cream at a time until you reach the desired consistency. If it’s too thin, add more powdered sugar.
  5. Use or Store:
    • Use the frosting immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or other desserts, or store it in the refrigerator for up to a week. Before using refrigerated frosting, let it sit at room temperature for a bit and give it a quick stir to refresh the consistency.

This frosting is versatile and can be used in various desserts, offering a rich and tangy flavor that pairs wonderfully with sweet cakes. If you need ideas on how to use this frosting or other variations, feel free to ask!
