Classic Lasagna Recipe
Ingredients:
- For the Meat Sauce:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- For the Cheese Mixture:
- 1 (15 oz) container ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Additional Ingredients:
- 9 lasagna noodles, cooked
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions:
- Prepare the Meat Sauce:
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned; drain the excess fat.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, salt, basil, and pepper. Simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Prepare the Cheese Mixture:
- In a bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, egg, salt, parsley, and Parmesan cheese until well combined.
- Assemble the Lasagna:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread 1 cup of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Layer with 3 lasagna noodles, 1/3 of the ricotta cheese mixture, 1/3 of the remaining meat sauce, and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layers twice, ending with a layer of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
- Bake the Lasagna:
- Cover with foil (to prevent sticking, either spray foil with cooking spray, or make sure the foil does not touch the cheese).
- Bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil, and bake for an additional 25 minutes.
- Allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.
- Serve:
- Cut into squares and serve hot. Optionally, garnish with extra parsley or basil for a fresh touch.
