Ingredients:

  • For the dough:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tbsp sugar
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (one packet)
    • 3/4 cup warm milk
    • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • For the filling:
    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • For topping:
    • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
    • 1 egg for egg wash

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
    • Add warm milk and melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned.
    • Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook until the onions are translucent.
    • Season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Buns:
    • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
    • Roll each piece into a flat circle. Place a portion of the beef mixture in the center of each circle.
    • Pull the edges of the dough over the filling, sealing it at the top to form a bun.
    • Place the buns seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Add Toppings and Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Brush the tops of the buns with beaten egg and sprinkle shredded cheese over each.
    • Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the buns are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Serve:
    • Allow the buns to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
