‘God Bless the USA’ was first published in 1984 by Lee Greenwood. He always felt the urge to write a patriotic song, and when the shooting occurred on Korean Air Line 007, Lee knew it was time to unite the country.
The song rose to the top of the charts, but it only became popular after the September 11 attacks.
