Ingredients:

  • For the Steak:
    • 4 beef medallions (about 2 inches thick)
    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • Fresh herbs (such as thyme or rosemary)
  • For the Mashed Potatoes:
    • 4 large potatoes, peeled and quartered
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 1/4 cup butter
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • Optional: minced fresh parsley or chives for garnish
  • For the Sauce:
    • Pan drippings from the steak
    • 1/2 cup beef broth
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
    • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
    • Place the potatoes in a pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Cook until the potatoes are tender, about 20 minutes.
    • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
    • Add milk and butter, then mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Keep warm.
  2. Cook the Steak Medallions:
    • Season the beef medallions generously with salt and pepper.
    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over high heat. Add the medallions and sear for about 2-3 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness.
    • Add garlic and herbs to the pan in the last minute of cooking.
    • Transfer the steaks to a plate and let them rest. Reduce the heat to medium and add butter to the pan, allowing it to melt and brown slightly.
  3. Make the Sauce:
    • Using the same skillet, add beef broth to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits.
    • Stir in Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard. Simmer until the sauce is slightly reduced, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Serve:
    • Spoon the creamy mashed potatoes onto plates.
    • Place a steak medallion next to or on top of the potatoes.
    • Drizzle the sauce over the steak and potatoes.
    • Garnish with additional herbs or minced chives if desired.
