Sausage Rolls

Servings: 6-8

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground sausage meat (or ground beef/pork, if preferred)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed if frozen
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the sausage meat, chopped onion, minced garlic, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Assemble the Rolls:
    • Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut it into rectangular strips.
    • Take a portion of the sausage mixture and form it into a log shape, placing it along one edge of each pastry strip.
    • Roll the pastry around the sausage mixture, sealing the edge by pressing it gently. Repeat with the remaining pastry and sausage mixture.
  3. Prepare for Baking:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Place the sausage rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, seam side down.
    • Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg for a golden finish and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  4. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the sausage is cooked through.
  5. Serve:
    • Allow the sausage rolls to cool slightly before serving. They’re perfect as appetizers or snacks!

These sausage rolls are best enjoyed warm and can be paired with a dipping sauce, such as ketchup, mustard, or a spicy aioli. Enjoy your homemade sausage rolls!
