- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional for added flavor)
- 1 small tomato, diced
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Tater Tots:
- Bake the tater tots according to the package instructions until they are crispy and golden brown. Typically, this would be at 425°F (218°C) for about 20-25 minutes.
- Cook the Ground Beef:
- While the tater tots are baking, heat a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula.
- Season with salt and pepper, and cook until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Cream Sauce:
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent.
- Sprinkle the flour over the onion and garlic, stirring until the flour is fully absorbed.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in the sour cream, adding salt, pepper, and paprika to taste.
- Assemble the Dish:
- In a large bowl or the same baking dish, combine the crispy tater tots and cooked ground beef.
- Pour the creamy sauce over the tater tots and beef.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
- Broil:
- Place the dish under the broiler for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Add Toppings:
- Sprinkle diced tomatoes and chopped parsley over the top before serving.
- Serve:
- Serve hot, ensuring each portion is loaded with toppings.
