Hearty Meat and Cheese Pasta

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 12 oz (340 g) mixed pasta shapes (fusilli, penne, farfalle, etc.)
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or a mix of ground beef and pork
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz/800 g) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Olive oil for cooking
  • Freshly ground black pepper for garnish
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
  • Garlic bread or your favorite side bread

  1. Cook the Pasta:
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
    • Add the mixed pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente.
    • Drain the pasta and set it aside.
  2. Prepare the Meat Sauce:
    • In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.
    • Add the chopped onions and sauté until they become soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
    • Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
    • Add the ground beef (or beef and pork mix) to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned all over.
    • Stir in the tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
    • Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Stir occasionally.
  3. Combine the Pasta and Sauce:
    • Add the cooked pasta to the skillet with the meat sauce. Toss well to ensure all the pasta is coated with the sauce.
    • Adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more salt or pepper to taste.
  4. Serve the Pasta:
    • Transfer the pasta to serving plates.
    • Generously top each plate with shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese.
    • Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
    • Garnish with freshly ground black pepper and fresh basil or parsley, if using.
  5. Serve with Bread:
    • Serve the pasta alongside garlic bread or your favorite type of side bread to soak up the delicious sauce.
  6. Enjoy:
    • Serve hot and enjoy this comforting, cheesy pasta dish with your family or friends!
