Classic Stromboli Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 10-12 slices of pepperoni
- 6-8 slices of ham
- 6-8 slices of salami
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll Out the Dough:
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle, approximately 10×14 inches.
- Layer the Ingredients:
- If you’re using pizza sauce, spread a thin layer of sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Evenly layer the mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, pepperoni, ham, and salami over the dough.
- Be careful not to overfill the dough to ensure it rolls properly.
- Roll the Stromboli:
- Starting from one of the longer sides, carefully roll the dough into a tight log.
- Pinch the seams and the ends to seal the Stromboli completely.
- Place the Stromboli seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
- Apply the Egg Wash and Seasoning:
- Brush the entire Stromboli with the beaten egg.
- Sprinkle the top with Italian seasoning.
- Use a sharp knife to make several small slits on the top of the Stromboli to allow steam to escape.
- Bake:
- Bake the Stromboli in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and fully cooked through.
- Finish and Serve:
- Remove the Stromboli from the oven and brush it with melted butter.
- Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and, if desired, a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.
- Let it cool slightly before slicing.
- Serve:
- Serve warm with marinara sauce or extra pizza sauce on the side for dipping.
Tips:
- Feel free to customize the filling with other ingredients such as mushrooms, spinach, bell peppers, or olives.
- You can also use different cheeses like provolone or cheddar depending on your preference.
