– 4 medium zucchinis, thinly sliced
– 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
– 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
– 1 cup heavy cream or whole milk
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 tablespoon butter
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– Salt and pepper to taste
– Optional: 1/2 cup breadcrumbs for a crunchy topping

**Instructions:**

 

1. **Preheat the Oven:**
– Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. **Prepare the Zucchini:**
– Wash the zucchinis and slice them thinly into rounds.

3. **Cook the Garlic:**
– In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat.
– Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
– Pour in the heavy cream (or milk) and bring to a gentle simmer.
– Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.

4. **Assemble the Gratin:**
– In a greased baking dish, arrange half of the zucchini slices in an even layer.
– Pour half of the cream and garlic mixture over the zucchini.
– Sprinkle half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the zucchini.
– Repeat with another layer of zucchini, cream mixture, and the remaining cheeses.
– If using, sprinkle breadcrumbs over the top for a crunchy finish.

5. **Bake:**
– Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
– If the top is browning too quickly, cover with aluminum foil and continue baking until the zucchini is tender.
