simple and traditional recipe for Tzatziki,

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of Greek yogurt (full-fat recommended for creaminess)
  • 1 medium cucumber, peeled, deseeded, and finely grated
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped (can substitute with mint or a mix of both)
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cucumber:
    • After peeling and removing the seeds from the cucumber, grate it finely.
    • Squeeze the grated cucumber through a clean cloth or use your hands to press out as much excess moisture as possible. This step is crucial to avoid a watery tzatziki.
  2. Mix Ingredients:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, squeezed cucumber, minced garlic, olive oil, vinegar or lemon juice, and chopped dill.
    • Stir all ingredients together until fully incorporated. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Chill:
    • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour. This chilling time allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.
  4. Serve:
    • Give the tzatziki a good stir before serving. Drizzle a bit more olive oil on top and add a sprinkle of dill or mint for garnish if desired.
    • Serve chilled with warm pita bread, fresh vegetables, or as a condiment for grilled meats.

Tips:

  • For the Garlic: Adjust the amount of garlic based on your preference. Start with less; you can always add more.
  • Consistency: If you prefer a thicker tzatziki, you can strain the yogurt overnight through a cheesecloth in the refrigerator to remove excess water.

This recipe will yield about 2-3 cups of tzatziki, perfect for sharing at a meal or party! Enjoy your homemade tzatziki with a variety of dishes or simply as a delicious dip
