Triple Layer Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Cream Filling

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • For the Chocolate Cake:
    • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 2 cups granulated sugar
    • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 cup whole milk
    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1 cup boiling water
  • For the Vanilla Cream Filling:
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • For the Chocolate Ganache:
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • Toppings:
    • White chocolate curls
    • Chocolate chips
    • Chocolate shards

Instructions:

  1. Make the Chocolate Cake:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
    • In a large bowl, mix together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    • Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla, and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin).
    • Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Cool for 10 minutes in the pans, then remove from pans to wire racks to cool completely.
  2. Prepare the Vanilla Cream Filling:
    • In a mixing bowl, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Add softened butter and beat until combined.
  3. Assemble the Cake:
    • Slice each cake horizontally to create four layers.
    • Place one layer on your serving plate and spread with one-third of the vanilla cream filling.
    • Repeat with the remaining layers and cream, ending with a cake layer on top.
  4. Make the Chocolate Ganache:
    • Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to boil.
    • Remove from heat and pour over the chopped chocolate in a bowl. Let stand for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth.
    • Pour over the top of the assembled cake, allowing some to drip down the sides.
  5. Decorate the Cake:
    • Arrange white chocolate curls, chocolate chips, and chocolate shards on top of the ganache before it sets.
  6. Chill and Serve:
    • Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving to let the ganache set and the flavors meld together.
