Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (900 g) chicken wings, split into flats and drumettes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)

For the Honey Garlic Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (optional, for additional heat)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken Wings:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) or set your grill to medium-high heat.
    • Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. This helps them become crispier during cooking.
    • In a large bowl, toss the wings with olive oil, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and cayenne pepper (if using). Ensure all the wings are evenly coated with the seasoning.
  2. Cook the Wings:
    • For Oven-Baked Wings:
      • Arrange the seasoned wings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a wire rack.
      • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, turning them halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
    • For Grilled Wings:
      • Place the wings directly on the grill grates.
      • Grill for 25-30 minutes, turning occasionally, until the wings are cooked through and have a nice char.
  3. Prepare the Honey Garlic Sauce:
    • While the wings are cooking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, butter, and hot sauce (if using).
    • Heat the mixture over medium heat until the butter is melted and the sauce is well combined. Stir in the red pepper flakes if you like it spicier.
    • Let the sauce simmer for 2-3 minutes, then remove it from the heat.
  4. Coat the Wings:
    • Once the wings are cooked, transfer them to a large bowl.
    • Pour the honey garlic sauce over the wings and toss them well to ensure they are fully coated in the sauce.
  5. Serve:
    • Transfer the coated wings to a serving platter.
    • Optionally, garnish with chopped parsley or green onions for a fresh touch.
    • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces or side dishes.
