Sweet Pastry Rolls
Ingredients:

For the Dough:
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 200ml warm milk
- 50g sugar
- 2 tsp dry yeast
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 100g unsalted butter, softened
For the Filling:
- 200g brown sugar
- 100g unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- Optional: 1 cup finely chopped apples or citrus zest
For Finishing:
- Egg wash (1 beaten egg with 1 tbsp water)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast.
- Pour warm milk over the yeast and let it activate for about 10 minutes.
- Add the eggs and softened butter, and knead the mixture into a soft, elastic dough.
- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Make the Filling:
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon. Mix well. If using, stir in chopped apples or citrus zest.
- Assemble the Rolls:
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
- Start from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log.
- Cut the log into 1.5-inch sections using a sharp knife or dental floss.
- Bake:
- Place the cut rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between them.
- Cover and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Brush the tops with egg wash.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve:
- Let the rolls cool slightly on a wire rack.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
