Ingredients:

  • For the Stuffing Balls:
    • 2 cups breadcrumbs or cubed stale bread
    • 1 cup cooked sausage meat or finely chopped cooked chicken (optional)
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped celery
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1/4 cup chicken broth (more if needed)
    • 2 tablespoons melted butter
    • 1 egg, beaten
  • For the Gravy:
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    • 1 1/2 cups chicken or beef broth
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • Optional: 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce for extra flavor

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make Stuffing Mixture:
    • In a large bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, sausage meat or chicken, onions, celery, garlic, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
    • Mix in the chicken broth, melted butter, and beaten egg until everything is well combined. The mixture should be moist but not overly wet. Add more broth if necessary.
  3. Form Stuffing Balls:
    • Shape the mixture into balls, each about the size of a golf ball.
    • Arrange the stuffing balls on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and cooked through.
  5. Make the Gravy:
    • While the stuffing balls are baking, prepare the gravy.
    • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
    • Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until it forms a paste (roux).
