Cheesy Potato Gratin

 

 

 

Ingredients:

– 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
– 2 cups heavy cream
– 1 cup whole milk
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon salt
– ½ teaspoon black pepper
– 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
– 1 ½ cups grated Gruyère cheese (or cheddar)
– ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
– Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions:

 

1. **Preheat the Oven:**
– Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. **Prepare the Cream Mixture:**
– In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme. Heat gently over medium heat until it just starts to simmer. Remove from heat.

3. **Assemble the Gratin:**
– Grease a baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes at the bottom of the dish.
– Pour a portion of the cream mixture over the potatoes, and sprinkle some of the grated Gruyère cheese on top.
– Repeat the layering process until all the potatoes, cream mixture, and Gruyère cheese are used, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.

4. **Add the Topping:**
– Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top layer.

5. **Bake:**
– Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes.
– Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.

6. **Serve:**
– Let the gratin cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.
