Ingredients:

For the Dumplings:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

For the Cinnamon Syrup:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup water (or you can substitute milk or cream for a creamier sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dumpling Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
    • Add the milk and melted butter to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined (be careful not to overmix).
    • The dough should be soft and sticky.
  2. Prepare the Cinnamon Syrup:
    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
    • Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and water (or milk/cream) to the butter and stir to combine.
    • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 3-5 minutes until the syrup thickens slightly.
    • Stir in the vanilla extract and remove from heat.
  3. Cook the Dumplings:
    • Bring the cinnamon syrup back to a low simmer over medium-low heat.
    • Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the simmering syrup (about 1-2 tablespoon-sized balls).
    • Cover the saucepan and let the dumplings cook for 12-15 minutes without lifting the lid, until they are puffed up and cooked through. You can test one by inserting a toothpick into the center—it should come out clean.
  4. Serve:
    • Once the dumplings are cooked, carefully spoon them out and place them in a serving dish.
    • Pour the warm cinnamon syrup over the dumplings and serve immediately.
