Chocolate Toffee Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Optional toppings: crushed almonds, pecans, or crisped rice
Instructions:
- Prepare the Baking Sheet:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Set aside.
- Combine Ingredients:
- In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, sugar, water, and salt.
- Stir continuously until the mixture begins to boil. Once boiling, reduce to a simmer and do not stir again until the next step.
- Cook the Toffee:
- Allow the mixture to cook until it reaches a deep amber color, or 300°F (149°C) on a candy thermometer. This usually takes about 15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and quickly stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour and Set:
- Pour the hot toffee onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it with a spatula to even it out.
- Wait about a minute or so, then sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let them sit for a few minutes to melt, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee.
- If using, sprinkle your chosen toppings over the melted chocolate.
- Cool the Toffee:
- Allow the toffee to cool completely at room temperature. Once set, break into pieces.
- Storage:
- Store the toffee in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks, or in the refrigerator if you prefer it chilled.
This recipe should yield a delicious, crunchy toffee that’s perfect for sharing or gifting during the holidays or special occasions. Enjoy your candy making!
