Ingredients

For the Layers:

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix (or store-bought chocolate sponge cake)
  • 2 cups milk (for soaking the cake, optional)

For the Caramel Cream:

  • 2 cups (500 ml) milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • 1 cup (200 ml) heavy cream
  • 1 cup (150 g) dark or milk chocolate, chopped

For Decoration:

  • Whipped cream or white chocolate (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cake Base

  1. Bake the chocolate cake according to the box instructions or prepare a simple sponge cake. Allow it to cool completely.
  2. Slice the cake into thin, flat layers. If using store-bought sponge, cut to fit your serving dish.

Step 2: Make the Caramel Cream

  1. In a saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, and cornstarch. Whisk until smooth.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens to a custard-like consistency.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and caramel sauce. Let it cool slightly.

Step 3: Prepare the Chocolate Ganache

  1. Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat until it starts to simmer (do not boil).
  2. Remove from heat and add the chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth and glossy. Allow it to cool slightly.

Step 4: Assemble the Layers

  1. In a glass dish, place a layer of chocolate cake at the bottom. Lightly drizzle with milk to keep it moist (optional).
  2. Spread a generous layer of caramel cream over the cake.
  3. Add another layer of cake, followed by more caramel cream. Repeat until you reach the top of the dish.
  4. Pour the chocolate ganache over the final layer and spread evenly.

Step 5: Decorate

  1. Using a piping bag, decorate the top with whipped cream or melted white chocolate in a pattern of your choice.

Step 6: Chill

  1. Refrigerate the dessert for at least 4 hours or overnight to set.

Serving

Slice the dessert into squares or scoop it out with a spoon. Serve chilled and enjoy the rich combination of chocolate and caramel in every bite!

Tips

  • For added texture, sprinkle crushed nuts or chocolate chips between layers.
  • Swap caramel sauce with dulce de leche for a creamier taste.
  • Use a square or rectangular glass dish for a neat layered appearance.

This layered dessert is a crowd-pleaser and combines rich flavors with a creamy texture, making it the perfect treat for any occasion!
