Caramel Cake Squares with Caramel Sauce Recipe

 

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • For the Cake:
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 4 eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup milk
  • For the Caramel Sauce:
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 1/4 cup heavy cream
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cake:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
    • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
    • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
    • Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
    • Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan.
  2. Make the Caramel Sauce:
    • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar and butter. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture begins to boil.
    • Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
    • Remove from heat and carefully stir in the heavy cream and vanilla extract until smooth.
    • Allow the sauce to cool slightly; it will thicken as it cools.
  3. Assemble and Serve:
    • Cut the cooled cake into squares.
    • Drizzle caramel sauce over each square before serving.
    • Optionally, you can sprinkle a little sea salt over the caramel sauce for a salted caramel flavor.
