6 apples
Sticks or decorative straws for each apple
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup chopped peanuts (optional)
**Directions :**
Prepare the Apples:
Heat water in a pot until hot but not boiling. Add 1 teaspoon of vinegar.
Insert a stick into the stem end of each apple. Dip the apples in hot water and swirl them to melt and remove any wax from the skin. Wipe the apples with a towel to dry and remove any remaining wax.
Line a cookie sheet with wax paper and set it aside.
Make the Caramel:
In a saucepan, combine 3/4 cup heavy cream, corn syrup, butter, and sugar. Heat the mixture and cook to 245°F (firm ball stage). Remove from heat and carefully stir in the remaining cream and vanilla extract. Be cautious, as the caramel will be very hot and may splatter.
Dip the Apples:
Dip and twirl each apple in the caramel to coat it fully. Allow any excess caramel to drip off.
Optional: Roll the dipped apples in chopped peanuts or sprinkles for added texture and flavor.
Place the caramel-coated apples on the prepared cookie sheet and refrigerate for 15 minutes to allow the caramel to set.
