Vanilla Custard Cake Recipe
**Ingredients:**
– 4 large eggs, room temperature
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 3/4 cup (150g) sugar
– 1/2 cup (113g) butter, melted
– 3/4 cup (95g) all-purpose flour
– 2 cups (500ml) milk, lukewarm
– Powdered sugar for dusting
**Instructions:**
1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
2. Separate the eggs. Beat the egg whites in a large bowl until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
3. In another bowl, beat the egg yolks with the sugar until the mixture becomes pale and creamy.
4. Add the melted butter and vanilla extract to the egg yolk mixture and mix well.
5. Add the flour and mix until fully incorporated.
6. Slowly pour in the lukewarm milk, mixing continuously until well blended.
7. Gently fold in the egg whites, a little at a time, until fully combined. The mixture will be very runny.
8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 50-60 minutes or until the top is golden.
9. Let the cake cool completely, then cut into squares and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
