“Heavenly Banana Trifle: Layers of Joy”
Ingredients:
- Vanilla Custard
- 2 cups milk
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 egg yolks
- Whipped Cream
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Layers and Garnish
- 3 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1/2 package of vanilla wafers, crumbled
- Optional: additional banana slices for garnish
Directions:
- Make the Custard:
- In a saucepan, mix sugar, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt. Gradually stir in milk over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and boils. Remove from heat.
- In a small bowl, whisk egg yolks. Gradually whisk in a small amount of the hot milk mixture. Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan, whisking constantly.
- Cook over low heat for 1-2 minutes until the custard is thick. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and let cool.
- Prepare the Whipped Cream:
- In a chilled bowl, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- Assemble the Trifle:
- In a clear glass bowl, place a layer of crumbled vanilla wafers at the bottom.
- Add a layer of vanilla custard over the cookies.
- Arrange a layer of sliced bananas over the custard.
- Spread a layer of whipped cream over the bananas.
- Repeat the layering process if the bowl allows, finishing with a layer of whipped cream.
- Garnish with additional banana slices and crumbled cookies.
- Chill and Serve:
- Refrigerate the trifle for at least one hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
