Classic Molasses Cookies Recipe

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • Granulated sugar, for rolling

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg and molasses, and beat until well combined.
  4. Combine with dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just incorporated.
  5. Shape the cookies: Roll dough into balls about 1 inch in diameter. Roll each ball in granulated sugar to coat thoroughly. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just set and the tops are cracked.
  7. Cool: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
